The Gipsy Kings do not disappoint. They are fantastic performers and I can’t wait to see them live again. I wonder if they’re releasing a new CD in the near future.

From the moment they came on, you could feel the electricity. What a mixture of cultures and ages enjoying beautiful sounds together. I have been a fan since they first started performing. Even though most of the members are not original, they are still amazing! The combination of the young and older members makes for great music. They had every one up dancing! Loved them. Can’t wait to experience them again!

It was a perfect night weather-wise and to hear this glorious music at sunset at Chene Park on the Detroit River was terrific! Music superb, setting beautiful, clean and efficient. Easy parking at the Rattlesnake.

I was never a really big Gipsy Kings fan – I think I only have a couple songs downloaded on my iphone, but I’ve heard from friends and acquaintances over the years that the band is really good, great LIVE vocals and a festive vibe. So, when I saw them on the calendar for NJ PAC performance, I thought it would provide the perfect ‘date’ night for me and my fiancé. He only knew a couple songs of theirs, just like I did. And note: Neither of us speaks Spanish! Well, I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed!! You could sit anywhere in that venue and have a great seat! They were electric, and I’m amazed at how talented vocally they are! The instrumental was also super impressive! They can rock a guitar AND a song!! That Nicolas Reyes!!! I had no idea what his name was until Sunday night — he just blew us away! All of them are just fun and fiery!!! Loved their energy! A few ladies from the audience jumped on stage to dance! The security guards attempted to get them down, but the audience’s cheering would not allow it and the band members loved their enthusiasm so they waved the guards away. So funny!! We have wonderful photos and recordings of the night, and are so grateful for the experience! Thank you Gipsy Kings!!! Keep Rocking!!!!!!

The Gipsy Kings gave a terrific, high energy performance, playing many of their hits and giving the audience of adoring fans just what they wanted to hear. While playing for only 90 minutes, the Gipsy Kings took no breaks; there was virtually no repartee with their fans. None of that mattered; however. The audience was drawn in from the moment the band appeared. Fans were dancing on the raised platform below the stage.

4th concert I have gone to. I love them! I must admit the other 3 concerts were at Chastain Park in Atlanta and even though it is outdoors and hot, I think I prefer the outdoor venue.

The show was good, but in reality is not the same Gypsy Kings, except from Tonino Baliardo, Nicolas Reyes, and the good percussionist Rodolfo Pacheco. the rest is young blood, good musicians, but is not the original powerful sound of the original Gypsy Kings; where is Andre Reyes? The show is just commercial sound. Tonino doesn’t play anymore like he used to play, he looks tired and out of it! Nicolas still good and good guitar playing.
They have such of beautiful instrumentals, like Pharaon, Rumba tech, Morea, etc, and they did not play any of them!

The concert was great! Well organized, good repertoire of music, quality sound, good crowd. The group split apart in 2014, but Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo keep alive the group with a new generation of musicians. They sounded just like the original group.

This is my 3rd time watching the GK live and they are always awesome. Great show, great crowd, feels like a big party.
This time I was a bit surprised that a lot of the original guys were missing. Only Nicolas and Tonino were there with a bunch of young guys. It turns out that the original band broke up in 2014 and formed 2 separate bands with their respective kids. In this version of the GK, the band is still great but the voices of the kids are nowhere near their parents’.

…. are they losing their magic a little?
I was slightly disappointed in the show, and I’ve been a faithful follower since 1993. They seemed to lack that effortlessly sensuous sound they’re so masterful at creating. With only the 2 “older” generation frontmen plus the percussionist, the additional “younger” generation, keyboard, drums, and electric bass have changed the sound and it has lost it’s original richness. This is a more contemporary sound, and I can certainly understand that they want to stay current and appeal to an expanded fan base, but I was left longing for the feeling that I was sitting around a campfire with them, pumped full of energy and sweaty from dancing. Maybe it was the lack of energy from the crowd, who knows. The slow tender ballads and the blazing guitar solos were the highlights, and of course Bamboleo and Volare always please the crowd, but even those two songs seemed sort of “off.” I’m hoping that this was just a not-so-fabulous night for them, and that next time I’ll be transported like I always have been.

I have enjoyed the Gipsy Kings for the past 23 years, and it was great to see Nico and Toni still perform like they do, while bringing new talent in with them. Really great show. Good selection of old and new. Amazing voices and guitars.

I am in my mid twenties and I went with my mom and my boyfriend to see the Gipsy Kings. I grew up listening to the GK’s and always wanted to see them live. I must say it wasn’t the best concert of all times. The concert was held at the NJPAC. The venue was very nice and you could hear the songs very well. I thought the concert was short, it started off very slow. When they finally started singing hit songs the concert was over shortly after.

They only played for a little bit over an hour, which is a shame for a band with such a large repertoire (it felt as if they had to stop playing by 10 P.M.sharp). Besides that, they did play with their usual passion and energy.

Not the same old Gipsy Kings. Strange choice for opener. GK’s had a great set, mixed in hits, encore + 3 songs. Great finish. Can see the new faces beginning to take some of the lead from the oldies. Well worth the $’s.

The sound was not well engineered. The main vocals seemed a bit muted and the acoustic guitars were over shadowed by the bass guitar and percussion section. I don’t go see the Gypsy Kings for the bass sound.

I was so excited when I found out the Gipsy Kinds were coming to San Antonio so I quickly bought tickets! The Majestic Theater venue has good acoustics and I was so looking forward to the wonderful acoustic guitars and the gipsy singing. Unfortunately, the addition of too much brass, electric guitar and HUGE LOUD speakers made it so very loud and hard to listen to. There was still one of the original singers and he did a very good job but the soul of the original gipsy kings appears to have been replaced by a much louder and modern version of gipsy singing/music.

We try to catch them each time they are here. The set list was great, though as mentioned in other reviews they do not play a lot of their older material. Volare, Bomboleo, Djobi Djoba were all played, as was plenty of new material. Nicholas is looking more healthy than in the past few years, which is good. Tonino was awesome on the guitar, as usual. It was a lot of fun, and plenty of dancing in your seat.

The concert was unforgettable!!! I did not see one empty seat in the room! The public started to dance from the beginning! It was so much fun!! And everybody was singing along.. Although I thought it would be not as great as in their earlier ages, because guys are getting older, but they really gave their best and the concert was just absolutely amazing, beyond my expectations! Too bad it was their last performance! I would love to see them again!

I received an e-mail for cheap tickets to this show, so this was a no-brainer, especially in the first row. Let’s just say that I was a casual fan and was not expecting much. I had no idea that they would just blow everyone away. There were anywhere from four to six acoustic guitars at any given time. They were backed up by drums, percussion, electric bass, and keyboards. The acoustic guitars and percussion dominated the sound, which is the way they were meant to be heard.

Love, love, love the Gypsy Kings. I am NOT a concert person. Rarely go to concerts but I am so glad I decided to see the Gypsy Kings. Have always loved their music and they do not disappoint in person. They still “got” it (and probably always will).
Venue – can’t think of a more beautiful place to see a concert, the river behind with boats bobbing in the water, Windsor/Canada behind that lit by the setting sun.

When the GK’s first started, the music was over powering their voices. After the problem was fixed, they sounded amazing, very talented group.
My only complaint is the concert was way too short they only played 7 songs. REALLY!
If I would have known the Gipsy Kings were only going to perform for 1 hour & 10 min. including encores, I would not have purchased tickets. What a complete RIP OFF to spend $100 + per ticket for the main act.

Awesome – Nicholas Reyes’ voice is stellar, as were the guitars. PROBLEM – and shared experience by several with us – the bass/bass drum sound like thuds during these concerts and they drown out the guitars many times. The essence of the Gypsy Kings are the ensemble of acoustic guitars and voices (like their albums). Today’s listeners seem to demand strong bass lines – but in a concert setting the speakers only create acoustic blasts that dont resonate in the ears, just beat on them. OTHERWISE – excellent concert. Took me back 20 years of remembrances.

The concert was a failure, the sound was horrible, the concert too short. I waited twenty years to see this band, and the concert was poor in quality, this was painful. Gipsy Kings sorry better luck next time. For me it was the first and last time.

  58. Calvin Loukanis

Our seats were all the way up at the balcony, third row from the top. The sound out there was unsatisfactory. Low frequencies overpowering everything else, very boomy. For the band like Gipsy Kings, where lots of a melody lies in high- and mid-frequencies of string picking on a guitar, this was unacceptable. Low frequencies were overpowering even singing. So it’s either poor house sound mix, or poor house acoustics, or both.
We were expecting a fantastic quality of sound of acoustic guitars and voice, and instead, got a booming bass of a dance club.
Everything else, though about the venue was good. Clean, polite, efficient. Added an extra star for that.

I first saw the GK’s in MN probably 20 years ago, and although they have aged a bit they still put on a hell of a show–basically non-stop music with very few breaks. They also have undergone a youth movement assuring that their distinct sound will continue for years to come.
