Biography

Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was a swing dance band formed by Glenn Miller in 1938. It was arranged around a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing melody, while three other saxophones played the harmony. This arrangement was different from usual and allowed Miller to develop his own style and sound, which made him and his orchestra one of the greatest and well-known of the swing era. More...

The Glenn Miller Orchestra played at the Chandler Performing Arts Center on Sunday Feb. 22. The venue is excellent with great sight lines and the acoustics were very good. While mostly enthusiastic seniors, there were some younger generations who enthusiastically clapped along. The band played the traditional Miller standards to the delight of all. They also played some lesser known Miller pieces including my favorite Oh So Good. I have watched and listened to every version of this band since 1956 and I believe it is the best version of them all. The leader’s enthusiasm is infectious and the band members do a terrific job of recreating the original solos. This band should be on everyones must see list. The Glenn Miller Orchestra shows why it is arguably the best dance bands ever. Go see them and I am sure you will agree.

I took my mom to hear the orchestra which she had not heard since 1940. She cried!

My husband and I, both in our late 50s, totally enjoyed this show. You can’t beat the music and the performances were wonderful from start to finish. If you ever have a chance to see the GMO take advantage of it!

My first time to see the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Love the big band music of the 40’s that my mom and dad listened to. Music for all ages, and all ages were at this sold out performance. The venue was perfect for the music. All musicians were amazing and versatile, several playing several instruments. Really appreciated the respect that Nick, Conductor and Singer showed the audience by sharing the history of particular songs made famous by Glenn Miller. Fun to learn more about the music. Natalie Angst, “Girl Singer” had a lovely demeanor and voice that fits perfectly with the 40’s swing and dance music. Hope the Glenn Miller Orchestra will not wait three more years before returning to Chandler.

This was no imitation songbook repertoire of Glenn Miller hits! The all-time great band played all the music in the original cadence, rhythm and arrangements. The perfect way to appreciate Glenn Miller’s genius and legacy – a must see!

That is the word my Mother and Dad used when describing this concert. I had given them the tickets for Christmas. They enjoyed the whole 2 hour program.

The show was fantastic. I had seen Nick Hilscher lead the orchestra before, and he was
vibrant again as both leader and singer. Natalie was perfect for the female vocalist. The arrangements the orchestra played were spectacular. The audience was completely enthusiastic. Can’t wait to see them again.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra was great. We enjoyed not only the music but Natalie, the female singer and Nick, the conductor. I got the tickets as a Christmas present to my husband. He was so thrilled and just raved about the show.
