We saw Tommy Emmanuel and Anthony Snape at the Lexington Opera House. Great show !! Tommy is truly a Master Guitar Player and an inspiration to other players. It’s amazing how many ways he has found to wring musical tones out of his instrument. My wife and I have already booked tickets for his show in Columbus, OH in November. Can’t wait to see him again !

I gave this concert to my husband for Christmas present because he loves music and is a guitar player. But to be honest, I was mesmerized and I loved it. Tommy Emmanuel is amazing.

Tommy never ceases to astound and amaze. It is for good reason that he is considered the greatest finger style guitarist alive!! The performance was stellar and the acoustics of this fine old theatre were perfect. I have seen Tommy a number of times and he never lets me down. His playing transports you to another realm – one of beauty, love and FUN! If you ever get the chance to experience him in person you will never be the same!! He is a showman extrordinaire!!
    God Bless Tommy!!

Tommy Emmanuel’s guitar playing is full of varied techniques yet manages to be tuneful and often lyrical. He’s capable of several different styles and has a friendly stage persona. The length of the show was great value for the price. The opener, Joe Robinson, had a short but entertaining presentation with a lot of original material.

I have been to many concerts but few have come as close to the variety and enthusiasm that Mr. Emmanuel shows, playing for nearly two hours non-stop and communicating with the audience playing a variety of songs and styles that are really special-well worth the money spent for the event. He is rated as one of the best in the world and I can see why. I have seen him on TV but seeing him live is a whole new experience.
I would pay to see him again-no question.
My wife was blown away with his talent and his ability and was excited as I was about the concert. It was for our anniversary.

If you love great music and great guitar playing, do yourself a favor and see Tommy Emanuel. His performance at the Birchmere on March 8th was the most remarkable show I have ever witnessed. His artistry and love for making music will make your heart shine. I have been a musician and a lover of music for my entire life; this man is an inspiration and a force with which to be reckoned beyond belief.

This was our first time seeing him and hopefully will not be the last. I was one of the most relaxing and exilerating shows we have seen in a long time. The guests who performed with him were equally amazing. it was an awesome way to add to the holiday season. Thanks again.

As always, Tommy Emmanuel was truly amazing. I brought some friends who had never seen him and I love watching their expressions as Tommy takes the stage and commands it with 110% energy throughout the concert. He played some of his standard pieces and then introduced some new songs he wrote himself. He did a long set of solo pieces then brought on some folks to play and sing with him.

It was a stunning show. Joe Robinson kick it off with your acoustic version of Misty. Stunning! He played several things off of his past two albums. The burgundy Strat that he had last year with the guitar army tour with Robin Ford and Lee Roy Parnell stills sounds great. what can you say about Tommy E …. Stunningly GREAT!!! If either of these two gentlemen are playing within 200 miles of you take the time and go see it !

I first discovered Tommy’s playing via a Youtube recommendation, and was struck by the incredible sensitivity and joy that his playing conveyed. No guitarist, jazz, classical or otherwise, has ever possessed the gentle, deeply emotional touch on the guitar strings of Tommy Emmanuel. No one is even close. And to hear him play “Over the Rainbow” will bring tears to your eyes, as he did at this show. It has apparently become a staple of his repertoire.
The only issues I had with the show were these — the amplification was WAY, WAY too loud. Nearly deafening. (I was seated in the tenth row center orchestra.) He could have cut the amplification by half and been just, as if not more, effective. (I discussed this with his sound technician, who informed me that Tommy liked the amplification loud.) Also, he should have played more ballads and less of the rock-a-billy stuff, and done away with the “drum” gimmick interlude. It adds nothing to the show, comes across as gratuitous and unworthy of his talents. (I know he’s trying to juice up the act, but he should play to his strongest points — the ballads. Stress his sensitivity, which is one-of-a-kind.) Also, the young Australian guitarist who opened the show, Joe Robinson, though technically sound if you go in for flashy riffs (sans emotional substance), lacked stage presence. And though Tommy probably looks upon him with great affection and is almost a father figure to him, I think Tommy needs to seriously consider finding a different opening act. It pains me to write this, but it’s true.

Tommy is the best guitar on planet earth. If you don’t believe it watch him play Classical Gas. He does things with a guitar that seem nearly impossible. His fingers move so fast that they seem to be a blur. He seems to play every part of his guitar. You will likely see him do things few players do like bending the guitar neck slightly to change the tone and reverse his left and right hand for a moment while playing to get a unique sound. His fancy rifts don’t just last a few seconds. Some of what he plays is hard driving guitar work that runs continuously for maybe 8-10 minutes as he explores a piece from lots of different directions to get different sounds.

Well, he is Tommy Emmanuel, after all. If not the greatest acoustic fingerstyle guitarist alive, he’s certainly in the top-3. He opened with an hour of many of his classics, including some of our personal favorites. A little bit of talking, just enough, and sharing about Chet Atkins, his hero and mentor, and their recording of “Smoky Mountain Lullaby” was touching. But, it’s always about he and his guitar. Stunning sound and lighting, perfect. Simply perfect. While we knew that the second half would add John Knowles, CGP, and Pat Bergeson – both very stellar guitarists themselves – the female singer, in our opinion, somewhat detracted from the overall experience. She’s good, not great, but good. But frankly, we came to hear guitar, and especially Tommy E playing. Anything else was a distraction from that. Overall, just a fantastic evening. The only negative o the night: General Admission, when we had paid for and selected (or so we thought) reserved seating on Tickemaster’s seating chart. And, the chairs in the Variety Playhouse are TERRIBLE, just incredibly uncomfortable, and were squashed together so tightly that it was aggravating. But again, we came to hear TE, so we put up with it.

In the world of guitar, there is Tommy Emmanuel and then everyone else. Cannot believe there were empty seats in a venue that only seats 1700. The only downside was the average female vocalist, but Tommy more than made up for that. If he comes again, shame on you for missing the show.

Dallas Majestic Theatre has a charm of “old good” post-victorian era, the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Light European rain washing downtown lights foreshadowed a real music feast. Seeming, flowing from everywhere public strengthened this feeling. The interior of the theater is amazing as well! What has destroyed almost all of this first impression were seats on the balcony. I felt a lower-class public of those days, you know. It’s built to make the show as uncomfortable as it could be. And again, the music was great, as well as the hairstyles of the ladies in front оf me. No sight of the scene at all! I was even hitting someone while leaving the place at the end, because of suffocating
absence of space… I gave 4 stars because of the great music, but I should 1 star for the comfort.

This show was different than the prior shows of his I have attended. He normally creates a rapport with the audience with conversation and jokes and such, but this time he came out of the gate hitting that guitar hard. Awesome showman! He is a tremendous entertainer and he and his two guest guitarists (John Knowles CGP and Pat Bergeson) were fabulous. I was a bit disappointed, however, that the second half of the show seemed to be “girl singer” Annie Sellick based – I picked up the names afterwards from YouTube. She would have been OK for one or two songs, but it seemed like she monopolized most of the second half, and I didn’t pay for that, I wanted to see more of Tommy being Tommy. He played background guitar for her rather than front and center. But again, he is awesome and definitely worth the time and price!!!

In my being present at this event at this gorgeous venue, the evening was the finest I’ve seen Tommy perform. Christie was so very wonderful, beautiful lady who graced the stage along with her awesome performance. I never had seen her in concert, will make it a must to see her again at the next opportunity. Tremendous talented singer/guitarist who brought her “Peace” message to all in attendance. Tommy, is just that, CGP., as per the late Chet Atkins. He brings so much of Chet back to the stage with his playing. Not ever forgetting to thank and mention the Master Mr. Atkins for inspiring his love and pursuit to share that gift with his audiences.

Joe opened with his own music which was excellent. His skill with his guitars (sometimes two at once) reflects the talent he has and the influence from Tommy. Tommy is as good as it gets for a self-taught and ultra-creative musician. Their set together brought everyone to their feet. See them whenever you get the chance.

anyone who appreciates music will want to 1) see this amazing and gifted person in concert, 2) educate themselves about what “CGP” means, 3) educate themselves about the impact of Chet Atkins in the guitar world. A person like Tommy Emmanuel does not come around in ones lifetime. I am lucky to be alive at the same time to see him play the guitar.

And here I thought I had seen all the best guitar players of my time. Sure, I’ve seen Clapton, Page, Van Halen, Satriani, Via and so on and so on play live. And I’ve always thought a great guitar concert required a rack of electric Fender and Gibson guitars not to mention a mountain of Marshal amps for a back drop. However, Saturday night, Tommy Emmanuel took the stage at the Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas to prove that all you need to be a guitar maestro is a few acoustic guitars, a pick, and, oh what else does Tommy have………? Oh yea, an insane amount of talent!
