Biography

Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, author, poet, actor, and activist. The critical success of the album Shotgun Willie (1973), combined with the critical and commercial success of Red Headed Stranger (1975) and Stardust (1978), made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. He was one of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound. More...

A true living legend and the voice of an angel. Truly enjoyed Willie and Allison! I can’t believe he is 85 years old and still sounds great!

Both Allison and Willie were fantastic. 2 legends in one show, cant be beat.

Allison Krauss was fantastic. Absolutely loved her and the Cox siblings. Willie, on the other hand, was so wasted he couldn’t sing. Instead, he force talked/slurred his way through every song. I recently saw him in Cincinnati where he had a rough start but cleaned up about a third of the way through and ended strong. This last show was very disappointing.

Amazing sets, with seamless transition. We were hoping that Sturgill Simpson might join Willie and family on stage and he did!!!

Poor Willie struggled singing all night. Most were spoken lyrics. But, his guitar playing was great! His sister’s piano playing was great as well. Really wish we could have heard him sing instead of talk his way through the songs.

Opening act Alison Krauss was very enjoyable, a great fit for the warm evening and the outdoor venue. Sound system was beautifully matched to her voice and her music. She played for more than an hour and did an encore set on top of it. Her set made the evening worthwhile. Willie, on the other hand, was not as enjoyable. He seemed to have something more important that he wanted to do as he rushed from song to song to song. My first thought was that he might have been under the weather and wanting to wrap up quickly. There was little engagement with the audience, other than the frequent opportunities for them to sing out the most well known lines of his more popular tunes when Willie would cup his hand to his ear, and at no point did he introduce the members of his band, which I thought was very odd. He played for just barely an hour and did no encores, typically a sign I interpret as meaning he’s not enjoying himself and wants to do just the minimum to fulfill his contract. I love Willie and his music, but for me, the most enjoyable part of his set was sister Bobbie’s honky tonk piano riffs.

Alison Krauss opened with her amazing voice and band. Willie came on and his voice got stronger as he went. Played all guitar parts and no backup singers used. In addition to his songs did songs for Waylon, Merle, and Hank! Amazing, especially for 85 yrs young!

What a Awesome concert. Willie played all the songs i wanted to hear.Willie at his age is still getting around Singing and Playing his Heart out. Alison Krauss came out sang some old Gospel songs with Willie & his Family at the end of theConcert. It was a night to be remembered.

This concert was a waste of my time and money. Allison was superb, but I could have just listened to her CDs. There was no interaction with the audience and no “show” Nor did Allison sing with Willie. Willie was bad, bad guitar playing, no singing…he talked the words…and mostly asked the audience to sing the words. Sadly, it was bad. Willie needs to retire. And Allison needs a promoter to enhance her show.

Loved this event . Alison Krauss is wonderful and Willie has still got it despite his failing voice.
The only thing I didn’t understand was why there was a complete set change that took 45 minutes between the two performances

From Old Crow to Sturgill and THATH, each band was excellent, totally jammed out, and we had a blast! The beer lines were manageable, clean bathrooms, and sounds quality was on point.

We are glad that we went to see a music Legend in Willie. Obviously he’s not able to do a show like he did 30, 40, 50 years ago, but still Willie.

The only bright point of the evening was the terrific vocals by Alison Krauss and her accompanying band members. They were terrific. The KFC Yum Center as a venue left much to be desired in the way of offering an enjoyable evening. From not operating the elevators in the parking garage (unless there is a basketball game) to the arena security allowing patrons to repeatedly parade up close to the stage in the aisles on the floor in order to snap photos—which was a major distraction—to drunks spilling alcohol on patrons seated nearby while other drunks stood the entire performance by Willie Nelson, thus blocking the view of numerous people seated behind them on the floor–to Willie Nelson basically just speaking the lyrics to his classics for the approx. one hour he was on stage as his health is clearly in decline, it was a total waste of time and money. I will not return to watch any other concert at the KFC Yum Center nor attend any future Willie Nelson concerts.

Alison Krauss was magical! That golden voice was in perfect form. She may have played one too many heartbreak tunes but the voice smoothed that over. The gospel & bluegrass favorites were a must have experience in a live performance. Willie Nelson & Family were on top of their game. Willie’s vocals were up and down (he man’s 85) but still performed to a high standard. He powered Trigger through a masterful performance from start to finish. Overall, the night was a magical time we won’t soon forget.
Don’t miss the chance to catch Willie Nelson & Family in a live performance while he’s STILL NOT DEAD !!!

Pretty disappointing to pay $175.00 plus fees and 3 of the 4 bands I went to see were cancelled last minute. I understand people get sick, but if Willie was really sick, he would have cancelled way earlier instead of making everyone sit in the dark until his bus could get out of the venue so he wouldn’t have to wait in traffic with his fans. I was right up front and the two videos are really accurate. There are rumors of another show, but I’d rather take the refund. Wouldn’t you think he’d at least make a social media apology and promise another show soon? Nope, just crickets from Willie. You are a national treasure, but you need to man up on this one.

My wife loves Willie so I picked up some good seats and we came just in time to see Allison Krause. I’d seen her with Robert Plant but never doing her own show. Her voice is fantastic, I’m not familiar with her work as I’m a rock n roll guy but the songs I did recognize were spot on. She actually played for about as long as Willie did and the crowd really loved her.

Great show. Willie’s still got it. He was very entertaining. Allison Krauss was good too. We were so excited to see Sturgill Simpson too but he seemed to have veered off to a harder Rock style. His portion of the show was not a good fit sandwiched between Willie Nelson and Allison Krauss. He mentioned during the show that his 40 year old midlife crisis made him want to Rock out. He seemed like he was having a good time playing the music he wanted to play but forgot that the crowd came to hear something a little different. I felt like we were at a rock concert during his part of the show. So disappointing.

Alison’s set, as a stand-alone performance geared towards her religious following in the South, was entertaining. However, as a warm-up act for a country music legend, she fell flat. Rather than invigorate the crowd for the main event, she left us in a place of quiet reverence. Considering his age, Willie did the best that his health would allow. Kudos to him for continuing to make an effort when he could be relaxing comfortably.

Willie was amazing at june 22nd show at Riverbend Music Center for the Outlaw Festival Tour. All the opening bands were great too. Especially Sturgill Simpson. Would recommend for any Willie Nelson fan or just any fan of country music to go see Willie at least once in your life.

Liked Willie, liked old crow medicine show. The other bands were just to loud and you couldn’t even here the lyrics to the songs. I did not like that especially the group before Willie. What a bummer to have to endure poor shows to see the headliner.

I want my money back . He didn’t sing the songs and he couldn’t play the guitar . AND they didn’t bother to hire another guitar player. I am sorry and I am disappointed . He sort of talked through the songs and they had the audience sing a lot. Alison Krause was amazing btw. I don’t know that he was stoned but if he wasn’t he was missing a good bet.
