The singing was okay. The musicianship was adequate but with no special moments. One song seemed to run into another. The overall energy of the performance was limited and the show started to get tedious.

I was too young to see Bob Marley perform but have watched every last movie/documentary and live video I could get my hands on. I knew that Ziggy’s show would be awesome simply because he is his father’s son, he stands for and believes in the things his father also embraced years ago but mainly because they are so much alike in their performance style compared to the rest of the Marley boys. I was not prepared for Ziggy being so much like his father from the way he strode out on stage with an air of complete confidence yet vulnerability to the way the lyrics stormed from his heart with eyes closed as if in prayer! I’ve seen videos of Bob literally being possessed by the spirit in his music and Ziggy gave me goose bumps as I watched him channel his father’s charisma and sincerity into his own lyrics and beats. I waited in line for over an hour and stood in front of the stage for over two hours to see a genuine legend in his own right! I would do it over and over again! It was the best show I have ever been to in my whole 30 years of witnessing live music. The venue was the perfect spot for a personal and very intimate expression of this man’s true calling. That it happened to be his 46th birthday made it all the more special! I will never forget Variety Playhouse and Ziggy Marley for the rest of my days on this Earth!

I give Ziggy 5 stars for his performance and crowd interaction. However, be prepared if you go to a concert at Mandalay Bay Beach and you have not reserved a cabana you will be standing the whole time. They do not provide seating so you will need to bring a beach chair of your own or stay in the pool the whole time. As I said Ziggy was fantastic… just not a fan of venues that make you pay extra just to sit down.

Experienced yet another great night in Vegas, dancing to the great jam jam sounds of Ziggy! “I get up”, “Sunshine”, and “Forward to love” are a few out of many hits he performed live. Big shout out to his band and dancers as well. Overall Ziggy definitely brought Jamaica to Vegas and took us on a journey of great music. Ziggy is most definitely a must see! 🙂

This was such a special concert. To some really hardcore fans of Bob Marley, he has a prophet like status. Great to see the crowd come out in force in their Bob Marley t shirts! This concert was great but didn’t go far enough! I wish that there was a special commerative program available that could have been available in light of Bob Marley’s 70th birthday, even if it would be as much as 10-20 bucks. It would have been great to have a page about Ziggy and Stephen and more information and more context about the music, the musicians and their journey. Something more about the musicians. Also there was no way I could find out who the musicians were. There is a huge story in each artist, no where could you see their names. That is not respect for the artists. I wish there were more details available about the artists in the program, why those guys compared to other musicians. I don’t recall the musicians names being called and them being recognized or having much time for mini solos. The Asian guitar player was shredding! I also think that it would have been interesting to see Bob Marley’s photo some where in the program, maybe projected on the screen, was nice when Stephen yelled out “Bob Marley!”. Yes it was all his songs, but there was a missed moment to project his image, one of the most powerful voices in the history of modern music, a missed chance to really highlight this incredible human being and spirits of earth and the reason we were all there together in that moment.
I think there should be more info about why those songs of all the songs were chosen. Why did they choose to open with Redemption Song and the set list was great in terms of honoring Bob’s early career with songs Simmer Down and Small Axe, but I think it would have been cool if in the social media or some how there was more context about the thinking of the set list and what influenced those songs as compared to so many others. Or do a follow up interview and include this concert and the interviews in a future documentary. Because Stephen and Ziggy don’t often or rarely perform together, this was a great concert and I hope it can be available at a later time. I think that for the fans, there could be more aspects that could be even more fulfilling. It would be great if the Hollywood Bowl could do more with reggae concerts and explore the relationship between the Marley brothers more because there are like 5 who are trying to live up to their father (Ziggy, Stephen, Damien, Julian, Ky-Mani). Also that was painful there was no encore! Finally, I wanted to tell ZIggy that I thought it would have been really powerful if they opened with the Marley Chant like Bob used to have at the beginning of his concerts, that would have been a great way to honor the legacy of Bob. My only wish is that I could have been much closer, but the screens help, thanks for projecting the concert.

Sorry Ziggy, but your act is tired and totally prescribed; I felt like I was at a bad lounge show. You danced around a bit and shook your dreds, but there was no passion or fire to your performance, and it’s a sad statement when the only time the crowd got excited was when you sang the old Bob standards. Wish you could get back to being a little more free – your two back up singers were the best part of the show.

One would think that an outdoor, pool side concert in Vegas would we awesome, well not so fast. Without wasting any more time, we left after 5 songs.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect going to this concert. My husband LOVES reggae and for the last 7 years, and I actually have several reggae artists that I love, but I would never say reggae was my favorite type of music. For our anniversary, I thought I’d take him to see Ziggy Marley. I knew we’d have a good time, but I wasn’t expecting anything earth shattering. Wow, I was so wrong! When he jumped on stage, and started singing right away, I knew it was going to be amazing! The entire 2 hour set he played, everyone was on their feet and dancing. Absolutely NO ONE in the entire theater stayed in their seats and it became more like a dance hall than a concert. Ziggy’s band was phenomenal – especially his lead guitarist, and a man playing djembe. His back up singers had some great voices, and great moves, and at several points, performed some African dance moves as well. And Ziggy? Ziggy was phenomenal! He was completely into every song he sang, he danced a lot throughout the breaks in the song, and swung his dreads in true reggae fashion. Not only did he do his phenomenal songs, but he also covered 6 of his father’s songs, including, “Is This Love?” and “One Love.” I couldn’t believe how much he looked and sounded like his father, and there were several moments when I could have sworn it was Bob Marley on the stage. He sang with such conviction and passion, that it sounded like the first time he was playing his songs for anyone. The energy throughout this entire concert was electric and as we exited, all I heard around me was “Wow…” and “That was incredible.” It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience that my husband and I will never forget. We drove 3 hours to see this concert, and I’m so glad we did. We would happily drive another few hours to see him, and I am already excited to plan another trip to see Ziggy Marley again.

They were ok – definitely no where close to the nearly $70 I paid for tickets…..they played Bob Marley songs but totally lacked Bob Marley emotion….just because they are relatives to BM doesn’t mean that have “it”. When they were done playing…they were done playing….They scooted off stage as fast as possible and did not return…..not good!

Another fantastic Reggae Night we attended! This show was extra special as it was in tribute to what would be Bob Marley’s 70th Birthday. Awesome performances by The Skatalites and Inner Circle – who actually did a very good rendition of an Ed Sheeran song (!). But, of course, the highlight of the night was when both Stephen Marley and Ziggy Marley took to the stage. Everyone was on their feet!

Pretty good show from Ziggy. However, ticket reported showtime at 8pm (venue had a 10:30pm curfew). At 8:05pm, some DJ gets on stage and plays reggae tracks until 9pm. Not all that great in my opinion. We wait another 15-20 minutes for Ziggy. He puts on a good show, but ends up only playing for an hour and fifteen minutes. Kinda a waste of $40 per ticket if you ask me.

As usual one of the best performing Reggae artist with class. Ziggy put everyone into the groove, when he played “one Love” it was as if I was listening to Bob Marley singing, but start it up from the album was my favorite, also the dedication “Butterflies” to Mohamed Ali, at the time I didn’t realize he had past, that was cool from Ziggy.

Ziggy was amazing, channeling his father so well. great show. but very irritating to have to wait for 1 3/4 hours, just listening to piped music. should have had a back up group if he was not going to start until 9:45!!

    Reply

Although his music is superb, that rests mainly on his ability to channel his father musically. What was unforgivable was that he elected to the start the show an hour after the stated time. This was in a venue that claustrophobically holds eight hundred crushed in people standing room only. This is completely inconsistent with the message of love and solidarity he hypocritically expounds. I will never attend another Ziggy Marley show and I will broadcast my opinion of him to my friends.
